Libero Version 6 has been selected by the New South Wales Adult Migrant Education Service (AMES) to manage library services and resources across its five branches.

Managed Services Relieve AMES Resource Constraints
  •  Libero wins tender

  • Fully-managed services from Insight Informatics

Libero Version 6 has been selected by the New South Wales Adult Migrant Education Service (AMES) to manage library services and resources across its five branches.

The web-based library and information management solution will be deployed in a fully-managed environment and maintained by Insight Informatics, the Australian organisation that develops and supports Libero.

Insight’s Project Team will roll out Libero across AMES five branches to provide them with a fully-integrated information management system capable of sharing resources across all campuses.

AMES employed Roger Henshaw Consulting Services (RHCS), a third-party specialist in information management, library and cultural services to manage the tender for the organisation’s new library and information management solution.

“One of my key objectives when performing the tender was to select a future-proofed solution for AMES. I had to be sure the selected system was capable of helping AMES beat specific constraints, as well as have all the functionality required to fulfill the needs of an academic library in the long term and in a web-based environment,” said RHCS Consultant, Roger Henshaw.

With minimal IT and Library staff on site, system usability, stability and functionality were key considerations in the AMES tender. Convenient self-check facilities, search options and functions that cater for users who speak English as a second language or with minimal library experience were critical requirements in the new library system.

“The teaching team doesn’t have much time to provide students with system training and assistance finding library items,” said Roger.

“So I had to be sure AMES have a solution that was powerful enough, yet required very little system training and maintenance to free staff to focus upon teaching and the curriculum, rather than performing IT and library services for students,” he said.

With over 30 years experience in the library and information management industry, Roger Henshaw is highly regarded in the Sydney region and New South Wales for his knowledge and ability to optimise performance, change management and business strategies.

A strong background in Public libraries and experience with a range of systems, including Spydus, Amlib and Horizon make Henshaw well-equipped to provide impartial advice on a range of solutions available to maximise the performance of libraries and organisations.

“I believe Libero was the best alternative for AMES due to it’s easy to use, browser-based interface, self-service facilities and the hosted and managed service range from Insight Informatics, a company with a solid reputation and experience in the library and information management industry,” said Henshaw.

Insight Informatics has developed and support library systems for more than 20 years. An international client base of hundreds of industry-leading libraries and organisations, including Academic consortia, a range of Public Libraries and corporations throughout Europe and Australia use Libero to maximise performance.

“I am familiar with Libero and many librarians that use the solution – particularly Public Library managers around the Sydney region,” said Henshaw.

“Libero users appear to be very happy with the performance of the solution and Insight’s reception to their product development requirements,” he said.

“I did want AMES students to be able to go up to the library system and be able to use it with little to no training,” said Henshaw. “I had to consider what they would be used to, having used the internet and possibly public library systems in the past, and attempt to meet that standard and expectation,” he said.

“I have no doubt Libero will help AMES beat staff and technical restraints and provide teachers and students all the time saving benefits of a quality information management solution, to help them carry out teaching and learning objectives”.
